![]() I was very dissapointed to hear no one even considering that the program version might be at fault, but as soon as I downloaded the libdvdcss-2.dll and placed it in the handbrake program folder and re-started, it seemed to work fine. Yes, Handbrake has offered a workaround, but I can't recommend the new release based on its lack of DVD decryption, the top reason anyone uses Handbrake in the first place. But This is my first installation of Handbrake, so it is 1.3.2, and the problem is just as the poster here stated. Why the change? I loved this feature, not because I want to steal movies, but because I want to rip and burn my DVDs to my Mac's hard drive so that I can watch them on flights without consuming excessive battery life, as playing an actual DVD would, not to mention the bother of lugging DVDs around with me. If you're on Linux, all you have to do is install a library. If you're on a Mac, and you have VLC 0.9.x installed, you won't even notice the internal capability's gone. Out of the box, Handbrake can rip any DVD that isn't copy protected.but almost all DVDs you buy in the store are copy protected. ![]() we're not about to stop you from choosing to decrypt DVDs. Step Zero: Install Handbrake and libdvdcss So You Can Decrypt DVDs The main tool we'll be using to rip DVDs is called Handbrake, which you can download here. HandBrake will dynamically load VLC's copy of libdvdcss if you have it in your Applications folder in Mac OS X, and if you're on Linux, and you want to live on the wild side, you can install libdvdcss on your system and get the same effect. The libdvdcss-2.dll can decrypt DVDs encrypted with a type of copy. Handbrake's author tries to put a brave face on this by offering a klugey workaround: More and more users think its a contender to HandBrake, MakeMKV, as well as the best.
